Spirit Day: Wear your RED BLE shirt tomorrow.
Book Order: From our last book order our class was able to get a lot of new exciting books for the room. For every book that is purchased, I get bonus points and I can order books for our room. The class has really been enjoying the "Branches" collections. If you plan to order books, you can search "Branches" and find books in this collection that are available to order. Books in this collection are Notebook of Doom, Missy's Super Duper Royal Deluxe, Monkey Me, Eerie Elementary, Kung Pow Chicken.... They are very, very popular! Orders due by Tuesday, Nov. 11.
In reading I am in the process of completing individual reading assessments.
In math we are continuing to review place value concepts such as value of a digit, rounding, expanded notation... We are also working on addition and subtraction. We will be moving to solving word problems and writing equations for the unknown.
In science we reviewed the two concepts: What is a Shadow? and How Does Light Travel Through Matter? (Opaque, Transparent and Translucent)
In social studies the class learned about the Great Lakes.
In writing we were admiring Love for Autumn by Patricia Polacco. We were admiring her great word choice, strong verbs, and descriptive words that help us picture the story in our minds. Here are some phrases we admire...
- When Danielle say Autumn for the very first time, she held the tiny kitten in the palm of her hands.
- Autumn would curl up in Danielle's arms and purr and purr and purr until they both drifted off to sleep.
- She wrestled with the packing shreds and pounced on the Bubble Wrap.
As we admire a published author's writing, we learn and experiment with our own writing to incorporate the techniques the published author's use.
